Sikh Marriage System / Anand Karaj

The Sikh marriage ceremony is also known as the Anand Karaj. The marriage cermony of the couple which is going to be married is centered around the Lawan. Lawan is a four stanza hymn and is composed by Sri Guru Ram Das Ji.

The couple which is going to be married, circumscribe Sri Guru Granth Sahib as each stanza is read. The couple has to complete one round around Sri Guru Granth Sahib on each stanza i.e. the couple has to circumscribe Sri Guru Granth Sahib four times. These stanza are mostly read by The Bhaiji of Gurudwara.

The first round the couple made around Sri Guru Granth Sahib states that it is the Divine Consent for commencing the householders life through marriage.

The second round the couple made around Sri Guru Granth Sahib states that the couple has been brought to union by the will of God.

The third round the couple made around Sri Guru Granth Sahib states that the couple is most fortunate, as they have sung the praises of the God or Lord in the company of saints.

The fourth round the couple made around Sri Guru Granth Sahib states the feelings of married couple, that the desire of their hearts are being fulfilled.

After the marriage cermoney is over, the couple is being congratulated by relatives and friends. The couple also take the blessings of their parents and elder ones.
